Doctoral Studies Admission

1) Overview

The doctoral program at Tashkent State University of Economics (TSUE) consists of two levels:

  • Basic Doctorate (PhD, “tayanch doktorantura”) - research training leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, based on supervised dissertation work, research methods preparation, publications.
  • Doctorate (DSc, “doktorantura”) - advanced doctoral study for holders of a PhD (or equivalent), culminating in a DSc dissertation that demonstrates a substantial, original contribution to the field.

All procedures related to admission, study progress, and degree completion follow the national regulations of the Republic of Uzbekistan and comply with the procedures of the Higher (Supreme) Attestation Commission (HAC). TSUE enforces these rules through its departments, doctoral schools, and HAC-accredited Scientific Councils.

2) Programme Structure

PhD (Basic Doctorate)

Purpose: Preparation of an independent researcher capable of producing an original PhD dissertation.

Core components: individual study plan; research methods and field courses; qualifying/field examinations; research seminars; publications; conference presentations; dissertation writing and defense.

Typical duration: 3–4 years (full-time), subject to national limits and extensions permitted by regulation.

DSc (Doctorate)

Purpose: Advanced research culminating in a DSc dissertation based on a significant body of published work and sustained scholarly contribution.

Core components: approved research plan; advanced seminars; publications in recognized outlets; pre-defense procedures; defense before a HAC-accredited Scientific Council.

Duration: Determined by research readiness and council requirements within national time limits.

List of Required Documents for Basic Doctoral Studies (PhD Track)

Applicants applying for admission to the Basic Doctoral Program (PhD) must submit the following documents:

Application form;

Brief biographical statement (CV);

Certified copy of the employment record (for applicants who are currently employed);

Copy of a Master’s diploma or a higher education diploma (specialist degree programs);

List of published scientific works with attached copies (at least one scientific article and two conference abstracts must be published as the basis of the dissertation research);

Copy of the Presidential Scholarship certificate (if applicable);

National or internationally recognized foreign language proficiency certificate (B1 or B2 level, or equivalent), in accordance with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation Order No. 211 dated July 14, 2024.

List of Required Documents for Doctoral Studies (DSc Track)

Applicants applying for admission to the Doctoral Program (Doctor of Science, DSc) must submit the following documents:

Application form;

Brief biographical statement (CV);

Certified copy of the employment record (for applicants who are currently employed);

Copy of diploma confirming possession of a scientific degree (Candidate of Science, PhD, or an equivalent foreign qualification);

A comprehensive draft of the research plan for the DSc dissertation;

List of published scientific works with copies attached (at least three peer-reviewed journal articles and two conference abstracts published after earning the PhD, which may serve as the basis for dissertation research);

National or internationally recognized foreign language proficiency certificate (B1 or B2 level, or equivalent), in accordance with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation Order No. 211 dated July 14, 2024.

Entrance Examinations and Interviews

PhD applicants must pass an entrance exam in their selected field.

DSc applicants must successfully pass a professional interview in their area of specialization.

Submission Procedure
